Building Self-Esteem

When you are suffering with low-self-esteem you need to identify the root cause of your low self-esteem.

Could it be?

  1. loneliness
  2. bullying
  3. poor academic performance
  4. neglect or abuse
  5. being unemployed
  6. or is there something much deeper going on.

Having healthy self-esteem is all about how you value yourself and how valuable you think you are to other people.  It gives you the strength to take charge of your life and make positive changes without the fear of making a mistake or being rejected.

With healthy self-esteem:

  1. You put your past in perspective and keep moving forward
  2. You develop positive self-talk
  3. You surround yourself with positive people
  4. You can identify your strengths
  5. You can identify your goals and take action
  6. You become optimistic
  7. You feel comfortable with all of your emotions
  8. You take time out for self-care
  9. You become more confident and take risks
  10. You take control of your life

When you have healthy self-esteem you act more assertively and you begin to realize that you are everyone’s equal.  You learn to handle criticism easily, because you know the difference between positive feedback and criticism.

You value yourself and you are not afraid to express your feelings and you accept people for who they are and you don’t try to change them.  You enjoy different activities like working, playing, walking and relaxing.  You see how important balance is in your life.

Remember that building self-esteem requires time and practice. Every time you have a negative thought about yourself, challenge it with a positive one.
