Drinking and using drugs creates an artificial sense of comfort and security. We might find ourselves searching in the bottle, the medicine cabinet, or the local street corner for something to assist us in fulfilling that basic human need, to feel connected.
Engaging with nature is one way to achieve this in recovery. Being amongst the elements; ocean, earth, and mountains, it becomes possible to increase our awareness of the harmony that exists all around us, all of the time.
Taking time to acknowledge the natural flow of things can bring us back to that which is important. We begin to see our own place with the natural flow of the world and stop incessantly fighting for things to go our own way…we can be in harmony with the world, just as it is, perfectly.
