Recovery means facing the things one has been running from, drinking away, using over, and avoiding somehow for many years. It’s viewed often as the hardest thing one does, let go of the vices that seem to make life tolerable.
As a counselor at AToN Center I have the opportunity to work through the process of uncovering some of the thoughts that keep one stuck in the vicious cycle of avoiding life instead of living it.
If alcohol, drugs, food and other behaviors are a solution to the pain, fear, and disappointments in life… We need to get to the bottom of what brings us to the belief that we need to use them in order to cope.
Recovery is realizing that life is worth living, feeling all that comes our way, walking through the pain to get to joy, facing the fears with curiosity, and experiencing disappointments that bring hope…
