We have officially entered the month of green – March! We’ve made it through the big holidays (New Years Eve anyone?!) and we can breathe a sigh of relief. And then comes St. Patrick’s Day. This holiday commemorates the arrival of Christianity and St. Patrick into Ireland – and often includes green beer and parties. This day can also be a challenge to anyone in recovery! Rather than focus on what we CANNOT do, let’s focus on what we CAN do to celebrate this holiday:
-
- 1. Create a new tradition for yourself
-
- 2. Wear green!
-
- 3. Attend a parade
-
- 4. Make your own celebration with sober friends
-
- 5. Attend a support group (SMART, 12 Step, etc)
-
- 6. Eat an Irish meal
- 7. Check out local resources – for example, New York City has an entire website focused on how to celebrate this holiday in recovery
Have a Safe and Sober St. Patrick’s Day!
